Registration will begin at 8 a.m. PDT on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

Conference registration pricing this year will be $55 for WOS members, $75 for non-members, and $35 for students. Field trip leaders will be invited to register free of charge.

Field trips will be $20 per person per full-day trips and $15 per half-day trips. You will be able to sign up for only one trip per person per day.

Important Changes for 2024

Due to the tight timeline and to streamline the process for our volunteer staff, we’ve made some important changes for this year.

  • WOS membership and renewal will be available only via the WOS membership page. If you are not currently a member, you can join or renew anytime ahead of the conference.
  • Donations to WOS or to the Patrick Sullivan Young Birders’ Fund can be made via the WOS donations page at any time.
  • All field trips and meals should be added when you first register. You will not be able to get into the system to add items once you complete your registration. If you make an error or want to add, change or delete items, please email the Registrar.
  • Payment by check will not be available through online registration this year.  Payment options will be PayPal or by credit card.  Please email the WOS Treasurer Bob Schmidt to make other arrangements

Registration Desk at the Conference

Registration packet pick-up and other registration functions, such as field trip changes, will be in the lobby of the Chatauqua Resort and Conference Center, 304 14th St NW, Long Beach, WA. The WOS registration desk will be open at the following times:

  • Thursday, afternoon, April 25, 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
  • Friday morning, April 26, 5:15 a.m. – 6:00 a.m.
  • Friday evening, April 26, 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Saturday morning, April 27, 5:30 a.m. – 6:00 a.m.
  • Saturday evening, April 27, 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Registration Guidelines

The Registrars for online registration are Tracy Mitchell ( and WOS Treasurer Bob Schmidt ( If you run into issues during the registration process, please email us directly to get your issue resolved. If you feel the issue is urgent, please call Tracy directly at 206-356-9180. If you reach voicemail, please leave a message, and we will handle all of the requests.

To minimize trips filling up while you are are completing your registration, you may register for up to two people. You will select the registrant type that matches for each attendee:

  • Active WOS members will register as “WOS member attendee.” Note: Your membership needs to be active by April 25th to use this option. You may sign up or renew your membership via the WOS membership webpage. Please contact the membership chairperson with any questions.
  • Students (age 24 and under) may register as “Student attendee.”
  • Field trip leaders, keynote speakers and awardees should register as a “Field Trip Leader/Special” (thus waiving your registration fee). WOS thanks you for your time!
  • If you are not a current WOS member, you may still attend the entire conference as “Non-member attendee.”

Trip capacity may vary, but is generally 12 participants, including leaders. Field trip leaders: Please do not sign up for your own trip, as we have already factored you in. Details on all field trips including trip ID numbers, driving distance, hiking required, etc. are available on the WOS conference field trips page.  The trips will be listed on the registration site and will be indicated by a unique trip ID number and the trip name.

Helpful Tips

Preparing for and dealing with “Inventory Deficiency”

Because things can fill up quickly in the first hour of registration, we recommend that you have some backup trips in mind in case your first choice(s) fill up during the registration process.  If this happens, when you click the “Complete Registration” button, you will get the following message:

Due to low inventory levels, there now is insufficient inventory to complete your request for the indicated items. Further action on the indicated fields is required before completing this request.

If this happens, click the “Edit” button, and it will take you back to your registration to make another selection. (Go to the field that says in RED font Inventory Deficiency Here). IMPORTANT: If you exit or use the back arrow instead, you will need to start your registration from the beginning.

Meal tickets

Friday heavy appetizers and Saturday evening meal tickets are available ONLY in advance. You will be asked to choose a dinner option for Saturday’s meal as part of the registration process.  (See the Meals page for more information.) Note for Field trip leaders and speakers: choose your meals from the Field trip leader/Special section to waive the fee.

If you would like to purchase an extra meal ticket for someone not attending the conference, you may purchase those through registration as well, by increasing the number of meals.

Registration changes

Upon registering, you will receive a confirmation email with the items you ordered. You will not be able to add, change or delete items on your own. Please contact the Registrar directly.


Payment for your registration can be made via credit card or PayPal. The registration software will send you to the PayPal site to process payment at the end of registration. Note: If you have trouble with payment, your field trip selections will be held until payment is resolved, so please do not register twice. Contact the Registrar, and they can help process payment manually.


Donations to WOS can be made via the WOS donations webpage. The Patrick Sullivan Young Birders’ Fund awards competitive grants to encourage and support young people interested in birding. Learn more at the WOS PSYBF website page. We appreciate your support!
