Please leave pets at home.

Leaders: John Leszczynski & Elaine Chuang

Meeting Point: In front of the Ballard Locks Visitor Center. For those driving, note that on the Ballard side of the Locks, there is a paid parking lot at the main entrance, and limited nearby street parking. There is free parking in a small lot in Commodore Park on the Magnolia side (south side).

Bike Parking: Bike racks near visitor center

Trip Accessibility: 1 (leisurely pace), B (mostly solid pavement but some steps and steep hills) ~ 1 mil

The meeting of salt and fresh water at the Ballard Locks makes for an interesting mix of species, many of which can be observed at close range. Join us the last Saturday of each month to watch an ever-changing cast of birds. Seasonal visitors integrate with year-round residents like Belted Kingfishers, Cormorants, and Great Blue Herons. Cared for by the horticulture staff, the surrounding grounds are also habitat for “the usual suspects” for our region. This is a great walk for all, including beginners: no experience is necessary! If you can, bring binoculars; they are available on loan from the Birds Connect Seattle Retail Space located at 616 Olive Way, Seattle, WA. Please call 206-523-4483 to reserve a pair.
